Thimphu Festival

Thimphu Festival: One of the biggest festivals in the country is the Thimphu Tshechu. This festival is held in the capital city for three days. The Tshechu is witnessed by thousands of people, both local and tourists. The actual Tshechu is preceded by days and nights of prayer and rituals to invoke the gods. Mask dances like the Guru Tshengye (Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche), Shaw Shachi (Dance of the Stags) and many more are performed

Day 1ARRIVAL PARO AND DRIVE TO THIMPHU

Arrival Paro Int’l Airport, receiving by our representative & transfer to Thimphu. Later attend Thimphu festival and sightseeing followed by a leisure time in town. Overnight Hotel

Day 2ATTEND FESTIVAL

  • Early breakfast and transfer to TashichhoDzong to attend the Thimphu festival; after lunch visit Memorial Chorten which was built in the memory of our Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, Takin (national animal) Preserve Center at Motithang, Sangyegang view point, Bhutanese handmade paper factory, either of the museums (folk heritage museum/Simply Bhutan or textile museum), and Crafts Bazaar.

Day 3THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING AND DRIVE TO PUNAKHA

  • Continue sightseeing with visit to Changangkha Monastery, Zilukha nunnery and Buddha point.
  • After lunch transfer to Wangdi across the Dochula pass (Alt.3050 Mtrs.).
  • Enroute visit Chimmi Lhakhang, a temple of fertility regarded as a pilgrimage site for barren couple.
  • Overnight Hotel

Day 4DRIVE TO BUMTHANG

  • Following early breakfast, transfer to Bumthang; Enroute visit Trongsa Dzong & Monarchy Museum and view of Rukubji & Chendebji village.
  • Overnight Hotel

Day 5BUMTHANG SIGHTSEEING

  • Full day sightseeing including visit to Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjee Monastery, Tamsing & Kenchosum Monasteries, Jakar Dzong and a visit to the Swiss farm
  • Later visit the weaving center at Chummy valley
  • Overnight Hotel

Day 06:DRIVE BACK TO PUNAKHA

  • After breakfast transfer to Punakha
  • Enroute visit Gangtey/Phobjikha valley which is the winter home of the rare and endangered species bird ‘Black Neck Crane’.
  • Visit also the Gangtey Monastery before continuing to drive to Punakha.
  • Overnight Hotel

Day 07:DRIVE TO PARO

  • Following early breakfast, drive to take a short hike to Khamsum Yulley Monastery
  • Later visit the historic Punakha Dzong and; stroll around on foot in the valley and Khuru town until lunch time
  • Later transfer to Paro.
  • Enroute photographic stop at Dochula Pass and view of Simtokha Dzong.
  • Evening at leisure in Paro town.
  • Overnight Hotel

Day 08:DAY HIKE TO TAKSHANG MONASTERY

  • An excursion to view & visit the spectacular Takshang Monastery. “Takshang” literally means Tiger’s Nest.  The Monastery is believed to have been built in 1684 on the spot where Guru Rimpoche (founder of Buddhism in Bhutan) flew on the back of a Tigress and meditated to subdue the demons in Paro valley. The trail to the Monastery climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. This incredible Monastery clings vertically to the edge of a granite rock cliff that plunges 900 meters above the valley floor.
  • Lunch at Takshang Cafeteria. Later visit Taa Dzong, the national museum of Bhutan & Rimpong Dzong.
  • Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 09:DEPARTURE

  • Early breakfast and transfer to the airport for departure.
