Druk Path Trek

It’s a short but semi-strenuous trek and trekkers is expected to be physically fit and ready to walk an average of 8 kms a day and at higher altitude. This trek is usually possible from February to June and September to December. Days are normally warm but very cold at nights. Avoid monsoon between July and August.

Day 1Arrival Paro & s/s

  • Arrival at Paro International Airport Receiving by our representative and transfer to the hotel Check-in at hotel & rest. After lunch drive to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, 16 km up the valley built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, father and unifier of medieval Bhutan. The Dzong was destroyed by accidental fire and left in ruins as an evocative reminder of the great victories it was built to commemorate.Explore the ramparts and on a clear day experience an unforgettable view of Mt. Jumolhari (7,314 Mtrs.).
  • Drive back to visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the holiest and oldest monasteries in Bhutan built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gyampo.
  • Later, visit a traditional Bhutanese Farm House.
  • Evening at leisure in Paro town

Day 2Paro s/s including hike to Takshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

  • Following early breakfast, excursion to view & visit the spectacular Takshang Monastery; “Takshang” literally means Tiger’s Nest.  The Monastery is believed to have been built in 1684 on the spot where Guru Rimpoche (founder of Buddhism in Bhutan) flew on the back of a Tigress and meditated to subdue the demons in Paro valley. The trail to the Monastery climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. This incredible Monastery clings vertically to the edge of a granite rock cliff that plunges 900 meters above the valley floor.
  • Lunch at Takshang Cafeteria. Later visit Taa Dzong, formerly a watch tower but now houses the National Museum. Taa Dzong holds unique and varied collections, ranging from ancient armor to textiles, Thangkha paintings, stamps, coins and natural history.
  • Walk down the hillside terrain to visit Rimpong Dzong, built in 1646 during the time of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It now houses Paro’s monk body and offices of the civil administration. Rimpong Dzong is the venue for the famous Paro Tsechu festival, held annually in the spring.
  • Continue to walk down-hill and through the traditional cantilever wooden bridge to Paro town.

Day 3Trek TAA DZONG - JILI DZONG, Alt.3000 Mtrs. Distance 10 kms, time 4 Hrs

  • After breakfast, drive to the trek starting point at Taa Dzong; the trail today is uphill and goes through Yak pastures. Trekking distance is approximately 7 kms, and takes around 3-4 hours to reach the camp site. You will find a ruined fortress Jele Dzong and a Monastery close to the campsite; you can visit if the care the care taker is around. On a clear weather, the view of Paro valley and Mt. Jumolhari is spectacular. Altitude at campsite is 2600 Mtrs.
  • Overnight Camp

Day 4Trek JILI DZONG - JANGCHU LAKHA, Alt. 3590 Mtrs. Distance 10 kms, time 4 Hrs.

  • The trail today takes you through thick alpine forest and rhododendron at an altitude of 3590 Mtrs. You will also come across Yak herders around the campsite at Jangchulakha. From the campsite, you will have very good view of Mt.Jumolhari and other snow capped Himalayan peaks. Trekking distance is approximately 10 kms, takes 4-5 hours.

Day 5Trek JANGCHU LAKHA - JIMILANG TSHO, Alt. 3880 Mtrs. Distance 11 kms, time 4 Hrs

  • You will continue to trek through thick alpine forests and a monastery on the site of cave to reach Jimilangtsho at an altitude of 3900 Mtrs. Camp site is nearby a lake, which is famous for its giant sized trout. On a clear weather, you will have very good view of Mt.Jichu Drake, alt. 6989 Mtrs. Distance is 11 Kms., and takes approximately 5-6 hours.
  • Overnight Camp

Day 06:Trek JIMILANG TSHO – SIMKOTA, Alt. 4180 Mtrs. Distance 11 kms, time 4 Hrs.

  • Your journey today begins with a climbing-up to an altitude of 4180 Mtrs. Crossing small lakes and further climb to Phume La pass at an altitude of 4210 Mtrs., where you will be greeted by plenty of prayer flags. In a fine weather, you will have spectacular view of Mt.Gangkhar Puensum (highest mountain of Bhutan) and the Himalayan range. Distance is 11 Kms, takes approximately 5-6 hours to reach the camp site.
  • Overnight Camp

Day 07:SIMKOTA – PHAJODING, Alt. 3050 Mtrs. Distance 10 kms, time 4 Hrs.

  • You will further climb uphill through the alpine forest to reach Phajoding; Distance is 10 Kms, and takes approximately 4-5 hours. On a clear weather, the view of Thimphu valley is spectacular from here.
  • After lunch, you will continue to trek downhill through the pine forest for another 2-3 hours; distance is approximately 5 kms. Trek ends at Motithang; you will be greeted by our representative and drive to the hotel.
  • Dinner & overnight Hotel

Day 08:PHAJODING–THIMPHU; trek ends & transfer to Hotel. Distance 5 kms, time 3 Hrs.

  • Following early breakfast, sightseeing of Thimphu – visit Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Monastery, Zilukha Nunnery, National Library, Folk Heritage Museum, Zorig Chosum (Painting School), Post & Telegraph office to view Bhutanese stamps, Takkin (national animal) Preservation center, Sangyegang view point, Buddha’s Point, Handicrafts Emporium, Bhutanese Handmade Paper factory and Tashichhodzong (the central secretariat building).
  • Lunch at a local restaurant
  • Evening at leisure in town

Day 09:Full day Thimphu s/s; evening transfer to Punakha

  • Day excursion to Haa valley, distance is 115 and driving time appx.3-4 Hours. Enroute superb views of countryside; later visit Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo with a leisure time in Haa town. This town has a traditional set up with cluster of typical Bhutanese two storied houses.
  • Drive back to Paro via Chelela Pass (Alt. appx. 4000 Mtrs.), distance appx. 80 Kms, and takes about 2 hours.
  • Dinner & overnight Hotel
